This federal application, will replace existing applications with a single, streamlined application that anyone can use to apply for health insurance coverage, including Medicaid, CHIP, and other affordability programs like tax credits and cost-sharing reductions. Beginning 2014, all states will be required to use this federal application unless they receive approval to use an alternative state application.

Single Stop USA’s comments focused on addressing the following topics: (1) Encouraging transparency in the application process; (2) Integrating Navigators, In-Person Assisters, Certified Application Counselors; (3) Leveraging eligibility results to connect individuals to multiple benefit applications; and (4) Addressing the concerns of immigrant applicants. In addition to submitting our own comments, Single Stop worked with the other national benefits access providers and interested policy groups to have a shared voice about ways to maximize this important opportunity to advance on-line benefits access.

The Coalition for Access and Opportunity co-released a new paper today recommending information-sharing reforms federal agencies can implement to improve the efficiency of federal investments in children and other Americans. The paper, Data Sharing in Public Benefit Programs: An Action Agenda for Removing Barriers, recommends 26 specific efficiency reforms designed to eliminate barriers that deny eligible people the help they need and deliver government services and benefits more cost-effectively.

Veterans Day. It’s our chance to thank the men and women who wore our country’s uniform for their service and sacrifice. As Joe Biden said during the recent presidential campaign, our society collectively bears a “sacred obligation” to care for the people who put everything on the line for us.

The test of our promise to our veterans isn’t how many flags we display on Veterans Day, or how often we salute men and women in uniform. The measure of how we honor them is how well we welcome back our brothers and sisters into the fold of our society.

Today, Single Stop USA along with Coalition for Access and Opportunity released “Data Sharing In Public Benefit Programs: An Action Agenda for Removing Barriers.”  Data sharing between different government programs and also with independent outreach organizations like Single Stop can streamline the steps needed for individuals to gain access to public benefit programs and stay on them. This policy report outlines concrete actions federal agencies to increase the use of data sharing while protecting privacy and data security.
