Clients learn not only the services they qualify for, but also how claiming one benefit may adversely affect another. Experienced counselors then use this information to provide individualized counseling to clients, guiding them through the process of applying for benefits, tax credits and other services. Those programs include health insurance, nutrition, federal and state subsidies for childcare, housing assistance, welfare-to-work initiatives and tax credits.
