Bios

Elisabeth Mason
CEO

Elisabeth Mason is the CEO and one of the founders of SingleStop USA.  Elisabeth is an expert on venture philanthropy, children’s rights, start-up organizations and poverty-fighting programs. She has over 15 years of experience, including her work at Atlantic Philanthropies developing a $1 billion dollar, 10-year spend-down plan to help disadvantaged children. Elisabeth was also a Managing Director at the Robin Hood Foundation, Senior Advisor at Innovative Philanthropy, and practiced Law at Cleary, Gottlieb, and Steen & Hamilton in New York City. In her early career, Elisabeth was the founder and Executive Director of Fundacion Kukula, an agency serving street and working youth and their families. During her tenure with Fundacion Kukula, she was one of the founding members of the Central American branch of the Latin American Street Kids Movement. Elisabeth has also served as an advisor to the United Nations and to local and international agencies on various human and children’s rights, legislative reform, juvenile justice, and community and youth development programs throughout the Latin American region. Additionally, she has participated in projects in India and Africa and served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Costa Rica, where she lived for six years. A lifelong resident of East Harlem, Elisabeth holds a J.D. from Columbia University and an A.B. and a M.A. from Harvard.

Angela Dorn
COO and General Counsel

Angela Dorn is the Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel for SingleStop USA, where she oversees the organization's operations and manages all legal contracts and administrative issues.  Prior to joining SingleStop USA, Angela worked as General Counsel and Managing Director at Fletcher Asset Management, an investment management company in New York City, where she was responsible for overseeing the company’s legal issues, as well as many operational issues. She also served as General Counsel to the Fletcher Foundation, and served in a legal and advisory capacity on a number of innovative philanthropic initiatives, including managing the Foundation’s relationship with the New York Community Trust and several major universities, and advising on a $50 million pledge in honor of the 50th Anniversary of Brown v. the Board of Education.  Prior to that, Angela had a distinguished career practicing employment law with Mayer, Brown & Platt in Chicago, Illinois where her clients included individuals, Fortune 100 companies and nonprofit corporations. 

Angela's other prior experience includes serving as pro-bono counsel to the NAACP and as a law clerk for a federal judge in U.S. District Court in the Northern District of Illinois.  She is a graduate of Harvard-Radcliffe Colleges where she received a degree in Economics, and Harvard Law School, where she served as the Executive Editor of the Harvard Civil Rights/Civil Liberties Law Review.  Additionally, Angela has volunteered her time for numerous pro bono projects, including cases involving claims of employment discrimination and police brutality and has represented nonprofit organizations and numerous individuals in employment discrimination cases.  She has also served as a board member for several organizations, including the Harvard Alumni Association and the Apple Seed Foundation.

Beth Dunphe
Director of Development

Beth Dunphe is the Director of Development at Single Stop USA, overseeing both fundraising and communications.  Prior to joining Single Stop, she was the Director of Development at Project Enterprise, a New York City based microfinance organization.  At Project Enterprise she expanded and diversified the funding base, created development systems for donor solicitation, stewardship and cultivation, and launched two signature fundraising events.  Beth also developed the Project Enterprise brand through website and communications materials. She was deeply involved in budget development and organizational management, as well as overseeing volunteer and staff recruitment.  Beth also has prior program management and development experience with the River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition in western Maine where she managed a community health program.  She holds a Masters in Public Administration in Finance from the Wagner School of Public Service at New York University and a BA in Economics and Environmental Policy from Colby College.  Beth also serves on the Board of the IMPACT Coalition, a New York City based organization that provides debate programs to local schools.

Nate Falkner
Vice President of Strategy & Technologies

Nate Falkner is the Vice President of Strategy and Technologies at Single Stop USA.  In this capacity, Nate oversees the development, maintenance and integration of Single Stop's technology platform, the Benefits Enrollment Network and directs Single Stop's increasing focus on non-traditional distribution channels, including the Single Stop Community College and Commercial Initiatives, that seek to overcome the barriers of distribution and financing. Prior to joining Single Stop, Nate worked in Afghanistan, where he managed a study on community schools and child security in rural Afghanistan for the School for International and Public Affairs at Columbia University and the Steinhardt School of Education at New York University.  Nate holds a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin, has completed coursework towards a M.S. at New York University and has extensive experience working on issues of social and economic justice, non-profit development and communications, both domestically and abroad.

Julie Kashen
Senior Vice President of Policy and Evaluation

Julie Kashen is the Senior Vice President of Policy and Evaluation at SingleStop USA.  Prior to joining SingleStop USA, Julie served as Deputy Director of Policy for Governor Jon S. Corzine (D-NJ) and Legislative Director for then-Senator Corzine.  In addition to helping to oversee the Governor’s Policy Office in Trenton, Julie specialized in policy issues affecting children and families, human services, poverty, labor, women and homeland security.  She was instrumental in expanding New Jersey’s Earned Income Tax Credit, enacting a new Family Leave Insurance law to help families afford to take leave to care for their newborns, newly adopted children and sick family members, and increasing the food assistance budget for food pantries and soup kitchens by 1000%.

Julie spent four years prior as a policy advisor to Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA) serving on the Senate HELP Committee focusing on labor, poverty and welfare issues.  Julie developed Senator Kennedy’s Healthy Families Act to guarantee workers access to paid sick days to care for themselves and their family members, as well as the End Child Poverty Act to set a goal for the United States of eliminating child poverty.  She was also a lead staff member on Senator Kennedy’s efforts to enact a minimum wage increase, extend unemployment insurance benefits, and fight for the progressive agenda on welfare reauthorization.  Julie has also served as the Policy and Research Director for Susan Bass Levin for Congress and the Staff Director to the Congressional Arts Caucus for Congresswoman Louise Slaughter.  Julie holds a Masters in Public Policy from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and a B.A. with Highest Honors in Political Science from the University of Michigan.

Cathryn McAleavey
Vice President of Finance and Administration

As Vice President of Finance and Administration for Single Stop USA, Cathryn McAleavey maintains all of the organization’s financial and accounting systems. Cathryn holds a Masters of Public Administration in Public Finance from the Wagner School of Public Service at New York University and Bachelor’s in Finance and International Business from the Stern School of Business, also at New York University. Her graduate studies focused on the quantifying the social return on investment of human services in New York City. She previously served as an associate consultant at Fiscal Management Associates, LLC, working with a variety of nonprofit organizations to strengthen their financial systems and develop financial management trainings for several foundations. Cathryn has significant experience managing complex financial systems and sub-grant programs.

Dianne Morales
Vice President of Programs

Dianne Morales is the Vice President of Programs at Single Stop USA.  She most recently served as Executive Director of The Door, NYC’s premier youth development organization. During her nearly five years with the organization, she increased the budget from seven million dollars to $11 million, developed a national model for youth career services, established an integrated case management program for youth in care, and oversaw the completion of a five-year strategic plan.


Dianne is an expert in education and youth development issues and has a wealth of experience in program development, change management, organizational growth and leadership development.  She has more than 15 years’ experience in program start-up, including the initial implementation of the New York City Department of Education’s Office of Youth Development and School-Community Services under Chancellor Joel Klein, the launching of The Teaching Commission, and the development of Jumpstart, a national early childhood non-profit organization. She has also served as a consultant to organizations in areas such as strategic planning, program design, and management.  Dianne holds a BA in Psychology from SUNY Stony Brook, an MS in Social Administration from Columbia University, and an EdM in Administration, Planning and Social Policy from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
